thoughts about authenticity...
au·then·tic - /ôˈTHen(t)ik/
of undisputed origin; genuine. not false or copied. real.
this word has been on my mind lately. when i asked aaron what authentic means he yelled, "REAL" really loud so i could hear him from the other room haha. when i think of authentic i think of authentic mexican food or authentic art and rugs from foreign countries. but what exactly makes something authentic?
i want to figure out what makes me, me. when i'm on social media, scrolling through my various feeds, i begin to forget who i am and what i stand for. i tell myself that i need to work with certain brands to be seen or i have to wear this certain style to gain a following. of course that is not true but it may sound easier to simply "do what everyone else does".
there was a quote from one of my lessons at church last sunday that resonated with me. a simple question, "how will you turn on your light?". i can turn on my light by just being myself, being that happy positive person i know is in me somewhere! a goal of mine this year is to be more authentic in my social media postings. since this is such a fun hobby of mine, i really want to gain my readers trust by being ME no matter how many followers i have or likes i get.
