"remember your valentine"
does anyone actually know the story behind valentine's day? as a kid i spent countless hours decorating my cute little valentine's day box to fill with cards and candies from my other children in my class. i would hand-make each one of my valentine's when i was in elementary school and write a note to my friends on each one. on the valentine of the boy i liked, i would write "i like you" then glue a heart over it so he would never see! haha.
i remember when i was young and one of my favorite children's book was one about st. valentine. there is only a few childhood books i remember and oddly enough this was one of them. now we don't know if this legend is factually true but a long long time ago, a roman emperor wanted a strong army to fight in war but all the men did not want to be soldiers. the emperor assumed they didn't want to be his soldiers because they wanted to stay home with their wives!
he had to make an end to this love. the emperor declared that no one could marry! *insert crying emoji* this made everyone so sad! so a priest, valentine, decided to secretly marry those who wished to be married! soon enough, valentine was caught and put in jail before he would be executed. while in jail he would send out love letters to his friends asking for prayers by writing "remember your valentine"
i hope we can "remember our valentines" this year and try to bless someone who has helped you or given you hope. send a valentine to a loved one you haven't heard from, or visit a widow. spread the love! ps how adorable are these hand-sewn skirts made by my friend over at Madison Lauren Designs
